Black History Month Shoutouts

Shoutouts to the legacies of:

W.E.B. Dubois, who was the first Black person to earn a Ph.D from Harvard (1895)

Norbert Rillieux, whose 1843 patent for sugar production revolutionized the sugar industry. Rillieux was a free Black man who eventually moved to France in the mid 1850s because of the racial oppression in America.

Crystal Bird Fauset, the first black woman elected to a state legislature (1938).
