Chris Hitchens and the Test of Unbelief

The Christian Post recently published a story about famed atheist Christopher Hitchens, who is currently being treated for esophageal cancer. He has declared that he has no plans to turn to Christ even as he fights for his life. I wonder how Hitchens’ unbelief is being tested. It’s easy to write testimonies about how God is walking with a Christian during challenging times of trial. Just ask Matt Chandler. But I will be interested to see how Hitchens responds to the test of his unbelief in God.

I look forward not only to seeing Hitchens be healed and cancer-free but I also look forward to him surrendering his life to Christ. I ask that instead of pointing an acidic “I told you so” finger at the famed atheist, we who have been graced with the freedom and salvation that comes from Christ alone pray for Hitchens.

  1. ” But I will be interested to see how Hitchens responds to the test of his unbelief in God.”

With a bit of morbid curiosity, what ‘test of his unbelief’? Are you referring to the cancer as his ‘test’?

Hitchens is a man who spent a great deal of time as a heavy smoker and drinker, which he admits, and which has nothing to do with his belief or lack of belief in religion or deities.

  2. I have no “morbid curiosity” about what Hitchens is going through. I simply am watching and listening to what he is saying about his atheistic perspective as he goes through treatment. Neither his life nor his cancer is a show.
