Where Are the Prophets?

Biblical prophetic ministry is in dire need today in America.  Not that I am dismissing the larger global context, but as an American–an African-America to be more specific–I should deal with the garbage in my own yard before I go sniffing elsewhere.

With the steady attention on race relations and President Trump’s activities, lines are drawn in the sand with jagged little sticks dipped in hate from the very sides who claim to be Christian.  I am not going to waste this post flaming non-Christians.  I’m coming for the fake mouthpieces whose “Bibles” are their favorite left-wing or right-wing publication or website.

Others claiming the mantle of prophet or “God’s voice” to cultural and political movers and shakers take to social media platform to build their ministry followings and curry favor with folks who have deep pockets.  I found one who attached a thumbnail of a well-known and reputable Bishop to his own account to deceive YouTubers into believing that he (the poster) was somehow affiliated with the Bishop!

Really?

I am especially flabbergasted by the “guns-for-hire” “prophets” who always appear on certain Christian TV networks to raise money for the network or who are always added to some megachurch’s preaching lineup to raise large offerings.  Yes, you know who you are!  True prophets must not prostitute their voices or the anointing of the Holy Spirit for political or material gain.  There must be a healthy reverence or fear (yes, fear) of the Lord; otherwise, we reduce God to our heavenly “bro” who can be manipulated and managed.
